Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad expresses anger over Chinmoy Brahmachari’s arrest

The Crime Desk: Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad has expressed anger over the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari.

In a statement signed by Manindra Kumar Nath on Monday (November 25), the Oikya Parishad’s presidents, Ushatan Talukder, Professor Dr. Nimchandra Bhowmik, and Nirmal Rosario, and acting general secretary Manindra Kumar Nath, expressed their anger.

The press release said that the presidents of Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Oikya Parishad, Ushatan Talukder, Professor Dr. Nimchandra Bhowmik and Nirmal Rosario, and acting general secretary Manindra Kumar Nath, and the spokesperson of the Sammilit Sanatani Jagran Jote, Prabhu, strongly condemned and protested the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari by the DB police from the Dhaka Airport area on Monday afternoon.

It further states that the leaders expressed the opinion that the arrest has the potential to tarnish Bangladesh’s international image in the world on the issue of freedom of expression and human rights. At the same time, they demanded the immediate release of Prabhu Chinmoy Krishna Chandra Das Brahmachari in the national interest.

It is worth noting that a case was filed against 19 people, including Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari on October 30. A person named Md. Firoz Khan filed the case at the Kotwali Police Station in Chittagong City as the plaintiff. The case was filed under the Sedition Act on charges of insulting the national flag. The law enforcement agencies arrested two people immediately after the case. They are Rajesh Chowdhury and Hridoy Das.

The accused in the case are Chandan Kumar Dhar Prakash Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari (38), ISKCON’s Chittagong divisional organizing secretary and principal of Pundarik Dham Temple, Ajay Dutt (34), coordinator of Chittagong Hindu Jagran Mancha, Leela Raj Das Brahmachari (48), Gopal Das Tipu (38), Dr. Kathak Das (40), Engineer Amit Dhar (38), Roni Das (38), Rajiv Das (32), Krishna Kumar Dutt (52), Jiku Chowdhury (40), Newton De Bobby (38), Tushar Chakraborty Rajiv (28), Mithun De (35), Rupan Dhar (35), Rimon Dutt (28), Sukanta Das (28), Biswajit Gupta (42), Rajesh Chowdhury (28) and Hridoy Das (25). An unknown number of 15 to 20 other people have been charged in the same case.
