The Crime Desk: The Secretary of the Ministry of Labor and Employment, AHM Safikuzzaman, said that the new labor law will be made by next March. He also said that work is ongoing to improve the new labor law to international standards.

The secretary said this at a press conference on the progress of the 100-day activities of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Labor and Employment of the Interim Government on Sunday (November 17).

Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, Advisor to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, was present at this time.

Stating that the third party is working to destabilize the labor sector, the secretary said, “Strict action is being taken against those responsible for creating labor discontent.” 128 people, including owners and workers, have been arrested. Many of these have owners who have been kept indoors. We are in a tough position, taking measures.”

“The workers are agitating for many logical demands, and many demands are unreasonable. He said that the third party is working to destabilize the labor sector.

The Secretary of the Ministry of Labor and Employment said that if the receiver (administrator) takes full control of Beximco, the ongoing labor unrest will be resolved.

He said, “Every month, Beximco has to pay 82 crores for salary and allowances. We will soon appoint Beximco Administrator. Today the chief advisor sir held a meeting with some advisors in his office. From there, I was given instructions. After that, I will sit with the Trade and Finance Advisor, sir, and discuss how to resolve the current dissatisfaction.

He also said, “Meet the governor yesterday. They assured me that this matter will be resolved when an administrator will fully understand it and an executive director of Bangladesh Bank has been made administrator. Taking it off will solve the problem.”

Stating that Beximco’s debt is too high, the secretary said, “Government cannot solve its problems by supporting such a big company. They have to solve the problem themselves. We are working out how to solve the problem by taking over their factories.

“The army is working on the temporary discontent there; the industrial police are working. We will adjust it with everyone.”

The secretary said, “Beximco Pharmaceuticals is still profitable. Their textiles are worn out. Whoever is behind Beximco has been detained.”

Secretary Safikuzzaman said, “Because of them (Beximco), many banks have come to the edge of the ditch. Janata Bank is a big place for them. They are supposed to pay from there. In the last two months, 164 crores have been paid out of 82 crores. 62 crore was supposed to be paid this month. Their arrangement with the bank is deficient.

He said, “The money that is coming into them (Janata Bank) after the export; they (Beximco) have a lot of backlock; will they pay from there or adjust that backlock?” It is being talked about. Four-five of our influential advisers are closely monitoring it.”
