Awami League leader Maruf of Karnaphuli arrested in Dhaka

The Crime Desk: It has been reported that MA Maruf of Karnaphuli Upazila was handed over to the police after being beaten up by the Jubo League workers in the Bangabandhu Avenue area of the capital Dhaka. The incident took place at a separate place in the Awami League central office area around noon on Sunday.

Several policemen are on duty in Gulistan and OC Mollah of Paltan police station. Khalid Hossain confirmed this information. The arrested person’s cousin, Mirza Mahbub, also confirmed this information.

It is known that the arrested MA Maruf is the son of deceased Kabir Ahmad of Mirza House of Charpatharghata Union (Ward No. 8) of Karnaphuli Upazila. He is the former assistant organizing secretary of Karnaphuli Thana Awami League and the current executive member of Karnaphuli Upazila Awami League.

Apart from MA Maruf, two others, including Mohammad Kabir, were beaten up and handed over to the police. Maruf, who was beaten on suspicion of Jubo League, told reporters, “I came to Dhaka to buy clothes from Chittagong.”

The anti-discrimination student movement has stood at Gulistan Zero Point and in front of the central office of the Awami League since this morning in memory of Shaheed Nur Hossain and demanding’removal of undemocratic forces and re-establishment of democratic system’. Awami League protest march is scheduled at the same place at 3 pm.
