The Crime Desk: After recovering the body of missing child Muntaha Akhtar Zerin (5) from Kanighat in Sylhet, the police gave sensational information. According to the police, the child’s body was originally buried in the mud in the pond. After the arrest of a young suspect, her mother took the body out of the pond and dumped it in a pond near the child’s house early Sunday morning to give a different look to the incident. However, the woman was arrested by local people on the way.
The arrested woman’s name is Alifjan (55). He is a resident of Birdal Kanarifoud village in Kanighat Sadar Upazila. And the child Muntaha is the daughter of Shamim Ahmed of the same village. The child went missing on November 3. The police recovered his body around 4 am today.
After the child’s body was recovered, angry local people vandalized Alifjan’s house and set it on fire. Later, the police stopped them.
Police say that when the body was recovered, the body of child Muntaha was covered with mud. There was something stringy around the neck. It is suspected that he was killed by suffocation by twisting something like string around his neck.
Talking to local people and the police, Muntaha has been missing since the afternoon of November 3. He could not be found despite various searches. A reward was also announced for the rescue of the last child. Meanwhile, the police arrested a young woman named Marzia Akhtar (25), a neighbor, on Saturday night and took her to the police station. Marzia also tutored Muntaha privately. His mother, Alifjan, and old grandmother live in Marziad’s house.
Sylhet Assistant Superintendent of Police (Kanaighat Circle) Alak Kanti Sharma said that the police took the neighbor Marzia Akhtar to the police station for questioning in the case of Muntaha’s disappearance last night. After her daughter’s arrest, Margia’s mother thought the police knew everything. For this reason, he tried to pick up Muntahar’s body, which was buried in the pond at night, and throw it in the pond. But the neighbors realized the matter and arrested him before he threw the body in the pond. At that time, Alifjan threw the child from his lap to the ground. After receiving the information, the police went to the spot, recovered the body, and arrested Alifjan.
Police officer Alak Kanti Sharma said that Alifjan and Marzia, who were detained in the incident, are being interrogated. Initially, they said they had a dispute with Muntahar’s father. However, it is not known what the dispute is about. The body of the dead child Muntaha has been sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for a postmortem.
Earlier on the morning of November 3, Muntaha returned home from a local waj mahfil with his father and went to play with the neighboring children. But Muntahar was not found again when he did not return home, even though it was afternoon. Since the child’s disappearance, the family has been claiming Muntaha’s abduction was planned. They also filed a General Diary (GD) in Kanighat police station regarding the missing incident. The family also announced a reward to find the child. However, the child’s body was found early this morning after seven days.
