If there was objective journalism in the country, there would be democracy – Director General of PIB

Khulna: Democracy would have survived if there was objective journalism in the country. But that was not the case in the last 15 years. The lost tradition of journalism should be brought back. The country’s democracy must be advanced through objective journalism. Farooq Wasif, Director General of Press Institute Bangladesh (PIB) said this in the closing ceremony of the three-day training of news report and speech specialist for journalists of Khulna district on Friday (November 08) afternoon. PIB organized this training in the conference room of Khulna Circuit House.

Farooq Wasif said that journalism had disappeared from the country in the last 15 years. Due to which we could not know the situation of the country. If there was proper journalism, there would be accountability, then there would be democracy in the country. But like other pillars of the country, the media was also swallowed up by factionalists and corrupt people. They stood against the country with the powerful. He also said that in 1971, 4 journalists were martyred in the 9-month liberation war. And in the first 4 days of August 5 journalists were killed. In the last 16 years, 30 journalists were killed, cases were filed against 1500 journalists, and torture was carried out.

Khulna University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. was the chief guest at the event. Md. Harunor Rashid Khan.

He said, newspaper is the mirror of society, the face of society. Journalists have more responsibility. Objective news plays an important role in building the country, nation and society. Journalists should present correct information to the public. Then there will be room for accountability. He pointed out that there is no substitute for frequent training in the changing age of information technology.

PIB trainer Mohammad Shah Alam was the special guest of Metropolitan Journalist Union Khulna President Md. Anisuzzaman and member secretary of Khulna Press Club Rafiul Islam Tutul. 35 journalists of Khulna district participated in this training.
