Rangunia Correspondent: Rows of dead trees have increased on various roads in Rangunia, including the Chittagong-Kaptai road. Besides, many trees are dangerously leaning over the road. Often trees fall on the road, blocking traffic for hours. In addition, these trees often cause damage to life and property. But the people concerned are not taking any initiative to remove the trees, even for a long time. This time, a young man named Omar Farooq has written to UNO to remove the trees.
When asked, Omar Farooq said that there are many big dead trees from Mariamnagar Choumuhani to Chandraghona Lichubagan on Kaptai Road. In the past few days, trees fell on both sides of the road, causing traffic jams for hours. There have also been cases of vehicle damage and people getting injured due to falling trees. If these can be removed, then people’s lives will be saved. As a conscious citizen of the country in the interest of the public, I personally went and informed Mr. UNO. I hope the concerned will take quick action in this matter.
It has been seen on the surface that the busiest Chittagong-Kaptai road in North Chittagong, the two main means of communication in North Rangunia, Mariamnagar DC Road and Parua DC Road, and the main means of transportation in South Rangunia from Godown to Syed Ali Road and Kalindi Rani Road have hundreds of dead trees on both sides. The dead trees on these five main roads collapsed in a slight breeze. In many places, half of these trees, or in many cases, the whole tree, are broken and lying on the road. Somewhere along with the dead trees on the road, many trees were also uprooted or broken on the road. From Rangunia thermal power station on Kaptai road to Chandraghona litchu garden, several giant trees were seen. Similarly, several huge trees are leaning over the road.
According to local sources, after the construction of these roads, hundreds of thousands of children, raintrees, and mahogany saplings were planted under the social forestry program on both sides. But the trees are dying for six-seven years. Because the dead trees were not removed, their inner parts were eaten away by insects. As a result, sometimes the branches of these hollow trees fall on the road. Even though this incident is repeated every year, the locals complain that no initiative is taken by the concerned people.
Upazila Range Officer Nahid Hasan said in this regard, a resolution has already been passed in the upazila’s monthly meeting to remove the trees. If the relevant road authority takes the initiative to remove it, we can fix the price as per the rules.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mahmudul Hasan said that necessary measures will be taken to remove the dead trees.
