Cox’s Bazar Correspondent: Police arrested a couple with a shipment of indigenous firearms brought to Cox’s Bazar town for’supplying Rohingya camps’. Superintendent of Police Muhammad Rahmat Ullah said that this consignment of weapons was raided in Cox’s Bazar city on the 6th JT Ghat area of the Bankkhali River on Monday (October 28) night.
The arrested are Delwar Hossain (32), son of deceased Abul Hossain, and his wife Khursida Akhter (26) of Puran Pallan Para, Ward No. 2 of Teknaf Municipality.
Superintendent of Police Rahmat Ullah said that on Monday evening, the police received information that some members of the organized criminal gang were bringing a consignment of weapons by speedboat from Maheshkhali. On the basis of this information, a police team conducted an operation in the JT No. 6 area of Ward No. 2 of the municipality. Meanwhile, when a suspicious speedboat reached JT No. 6 ghat area of Bankkhali river, the boat was stopped and searched. As the behavior of two men and women sitting side by side in the speedboat seemed suspicious, their bags were searched. At that time, four domestically made firearms of different sizes were found inside the bag. At that time they were arrested.
According to the confession of the detainees, they collected the consignment of recovered weapons from the arms factory of Maheshkhali. And these weapons were being taken to supply the Rohingya camp in Teknaf. The police superintendent said that the case against the arrested husband and wife is under process.
He pointed out that preparations for the case are underway at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Police Station under the relevant law showing their arrest.
