Bangladesh always gets top priority for India

Dhaka Bureau: Newly appointed Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Prannoy Verma said that India has a policy for neighboring countries. Bangladesh is given the highest priority in this regard. Bangladesh gets the most priority in any matter.

Indian High Commissioner Prannoy Verma said this after a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Ganabhaban on Wednesday (November 30). After the meeting, Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary KM Shakhawat Moon gave this information in a press briefing.

Referring to Bangladesh as a ‘very good friend’ of India, the High Commissioner said that Bangladesh and India will work together to combat terrorism in the region. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina clearly told him that Bangladesh has never condoned terrorism. He mentioned that terrorism has no religion and no boundaries. Sheikh Hasina said, Awami League never condones terrorism and never allows the soil of Bangladesh to be used for this purpose.

Sheikh Hasina said that Bangladesh and India can resolve all outstanding issues including Teesta river water distribution through discussion. He urged Indian businessmen to invest in 100 Special Economic Zones of Bangladesh.

Prannoy Verma said that trade and communication between Bangladesh and India has increased significantly in recent times. During the meeting, both Sheikh Hasina and Verma also discussed the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) to facilitate economic relations between the two neighboring countries.

Prannoy Verma said that India will help Bangladesh in power and energy sector. He praised the socio-economic development of Bangladesh under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Pointing out that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman sacrificed his entire life for the people of the country, Sheikh Hasina said, following the sacrifice of Bangabandhu, she herself is sacrificing her life for the people of the country.
