The Crime Desk: The administration is conducting eighty operations to evict the illegal occupants of the Kalirchara canal under the Akbar Shah police station of the city. On Wednesday morning (October 23), 12 organizations, including the Chittagong district administration, jointly started this campaign.
Assistant Commissioner of Lands and Executive Magistrate of Chittagong Kattali Circle Arafat Siddiqui, who led the operation, said that the operation has started to evacuate the plots and hundreds of buildings built by occupying the Kalirchara canal and hill adjacent to Akbar Shah Thana’s Lake City Housing. This campaign, which started at 10:30 am, will continue.
The Executive Magistrate said that the gang of encroachers had been occupying hills and canals for a long time and making plots and selling them to different people. Besides, they are trying to secure possession by constructing houses and various structures on these plots. The administration has started an eviction drive to clear illegal encroachments on canals and hills. At least more than a hundred illegal structures will be evicted on the first day today. Under eviction, the plot is created by raising the boundary wall, and there are various structures built in the plot.
Apart from Chittagong district administration, 12 organizations, including Chittagong Development Authority, Chittagong City Corporation, Wasa, PDB, Bela, Karnaphuli Gas Distribution, Police, and RAB, are participating in the campaign.
