The Crime Desk: Chief Adviser Dr. Thomas Andrews, United Nations Special Rapporteur, has asked for the help of several hundred thousand Rohingya refugees who fled the persecution and took refuge in Bangladesh to accelerate their resettlement in a third country. Muhammad Yunus.

On Monday (October 14) at his office in Tejgaon, Dhaka, the Chief Adviser asked for this assistance in a meeting with the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Myanmar, Thomas Andrews.

This was informed in a statement sent by the Press Wing of the Chief Adviser.

Special Rapporteur Andrews commended the Chief Adviser for the three-point resolution on the Rohingya crisis on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting in New York last month, the statement said. He said the violence has created a huge crisis in Rakhine State. Humanitarian aid is urgently needed for displaced and starving people, including the Rohingya.

At least 3.1 million people have been displaced in Myanmar, including hundreds of thousands in Rakhine State, the Special Rapporteur said. where rebel groups have been fighting Myanmar’s military for years.

He noted that in recent weeks, about 30,000 Rohingya have left their homes in Rakhine and entered Bangladesh.

Calling for a UN-guaranteed safe zone for displaced people in Rakhine and finding ways to support them, he said this could be a good start to solving the Rakhine crisis and could prevent thousands of new refugees from entering Bangladesh.

The Chief Adviser also suggested dialogue with the international community, including ASEAN, on the violence and displaced people in Rakhine. During the talks, the Chief Adviser also sought the Special Rapporteur’s assistance in expediting the resettlement of thousands of Rohingya refugees in third countries.
