The Crime Desk: Withdrawal of all cadres from the Department of Nursing and Midwifery, the nurses have started a strike again from Tuesday (October 8) demanding the appointment of experienced nurses.
They announced the two-day program at a press conference organized under the banner of the Nursing and Midwifery Reform Council at Chittagong Nursing College Auditorium on Monday.
Nurses and midwives will observe this strike in all government hospitals in the country on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and tomorrow, Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. However, emergency departments, dialysis, emergency surgery, ICU, PICU, and NICU will be out of the program.
Nurses have been holding a program since September 9 to demand the appointment of qualified and experienced nurses as Director General, Director and Council President, and Registrar of the Department of Nursing and Midwifery.
On September 30 and October 1, they observed a 3-hour strike across the country. Later, the program was suspended on the evening of October 1 when the health advisor assured to accept the demand.
But on October 6, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare temporarily deputed two nursing officers to the directorate with additional duties. Because of this, a strike has been called again, said the convenor of the Nursing and Midwifery Reform Council. Shariful Islam
He said that all nurses, midwives, students, and the reform council are disappointed with the decision of the ministry. A Director of the Directorate has been withdrawn from the Directorate, and yet qualified and experienced nurses have not been appointed to that post or the post of Director General. In this situation, we have announced another strike to fulfill our one-point demand.
The nurses staged a sit-in demonstration and held a red badge in front of the Department of Nursing and Midwifery on Monday to demand this.
