Obaidul Quader’s sister-in-law was cut and injured

Noakhali Correspondent: Miscreants hacked and injured Moniruzzaman Monir (55), sister-in-law of Bangladesh Awami League general secretary, former road and bridge minister Obaidul Quader, in Companyganj upazila of Noakhali.

On Friday (October 4) afternoon, an autorickshaw moving in the Charhazari intersection of the upazila’s Charhazari Union stopped its speed and cut him down and left him seriously injured on the side of the road.

The injured Monir is a former member of Ward No. 7 of Noakhali District Council. His father’s name is deceased. Aktaruzzaman.

Injured Moniruzzaman Monir’s nephew Rajeev said, “My uncle used to live with his family members in his house in Ward No. 3 of Basurhat Bazar of the upazila. Go to the Kadamtala Bazar area of the Charparvati Union of Bari Upazila in your village to offer Friday prayers. On his way back after prayers, when he reached the intersection area of Charhazari Union, miscreants stopped him. After that, the armed men beat him severely and cut him on the head, seriously injuring him, and left him on the side of the road. Later, the locals rescued them and took them first to the Upazila Health Complex, then to a hospital in the district town of Maizdi. From there, he was taken to Dhaka for better treatment on the doctor’s advice.

A resident of Kadamtala Bazar area of Charparvati Union said on condition of anonymity that Obaidul Quader has no contact or relationship with any family member except his younger brother Abdul Quader Mirza, former mayor of Basurkat Municipality. His other brothers and sisters also did not communicate with Obaidul Quader.

The family members of the injured Monir said that the upazila BNP leaders and activists are involved in this incident.

Companyganj Upazila BNP Member Secretary Mahmudur Rahman Ripon said, I have heard about the attack. However, no one from BNP is involved in this incident. He demanded to bring the attackers to justice.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Companyganj Police Station, Gazi Muhammad Fauzul Azim, said that no one has informed the police about the matter so far. Legal action will be taken if a written complaint is received.
