Lalmonirhat Correspondent: The water level of the Teesta River has increased further in Lalmonirhat due to heavy rains and upwelling. It may flood some low-lying areas of the four riverside districts by crossing the flood limit. However, the water development board said that this water will decrease gradually.
At Dalia Point in the Teesta Barrage area at 9 am on Saturday (September 28), the river was flowing 15 cm below the water mark.
Earlier, at 6 pm yesterday, the water of the river flowed 32 cm below the water line. All 44 sluices of the barrage are open as usual due to the increase in water.
On the other hand, continuous rain continues today, like the last two days. People’s lives have been disrupted.
The Water Development Board said that the Teesta water may rise further and flow through the boundary line, flooding some low-lying areas along the river banks of Nilphamari, Rangpur, and Kurigram along with Lalmonirhat.
Meanwhile, with the increase in Teesta water, water has started entering some areas in the lower areas of Mahishkhocha union of Aditmari upazila of Lalmonirhat. If the water level of the river increases further, the locals think that floods may occur in these areas.
Lalmonirhat Water Development Board Executive Engineer Sunil Kumar told the media that some areas along the banks of the Teesta may be flooded if the water rises. But there is nothing to fear. And after the next few hours, the Teesta water will start decreasing slowly.
