Dhaka Bureau: Under special circumstances, the government and not the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) can re-fix electricity and fuel prices. The Cabinet has given final approval to the draft of the ‘Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (Amendment) Ordinance, 2022’.
This approval was given in the Cabinet meeting held at the Prime Minister’s Office on Monday (November 28). Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting. Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam gave this information in a press briefing at the secretariat after the meeting.
The Cabinet Secretary said that in special circumstances, the government can re-determine the price of electricity and fuel. Because BERC needs 90 days to refix electricity and fuel prices.
