Doctors’ strike at Cox’s Bazar Hospital has been called off

Cox’s Bazar Correspondent: Doctors’ strike at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital has been called off for 5 days.On Sunday (September 15) in the afternoon at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, along with doctors, nurses, officials, and hospital authorities, Deputy Commissioner of Cox’s Bazar Mohammad Salahuddin, Superintendent of Police Muhammad Rahmat Ullah, and Civil Surgeon Dr. Asif Ahmed Howladar held the meeting. After the meeting, the doctors announced this decision.

All departments of the hospital have been activated since 3 pm. Medical services are provided by doctors, nurses, and ward boys. Patients and relatives expressed relief as hospital operations are normal.

Syed Alam, a relative of the patient from Hnila in Teknaf, said, “We suffered a lot for 4-5 days. They had to run from one hospital to another with patients. Poor, helpless people get sicker without treatment. There is peace now that the doctors’ strike has been called off.

Shah Talal Mahmud Dihan, the representative of the intern doctors, said we are withdrawing the strike for 5 days as the highest-level officials of Cox’s Bazar met with us and assured us. We want to ensure medical care. But if our claim is not progressed within 5 days, then further decision will be taken.

Supervisor of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, Dr. Mong Tin Yeo, said that Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin and Superintendent of Police Muhammad Rahmat Ullah came to the hospital premises around 11:30 am. They ensure the safety of doctors, and Dr. Sajeeb has promised to arrest those who attacked Kazi. So for the time being, the doctors have withdrawn the strike for 5 days.

Superintendent of Police Muhammad Rahmat Ullah said that the accused have been identified after watching the CCTV footage of the hospital vandalism and attack on the doctor. 2 of them were arrested. The rest will be arrested soon.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin said that due to the strike of doctors, the patients and their relatives suffered a lot. So we talked to the doctors to ease people’s suffering. According to their demand, police and Ansar will be deployed at the hospital round the clock. Law enforcement patrol teams will also look after the security of the hospital. At the same time, the attackers of hospitals and doctors will be brought under the law.

Last Tuesday (September 10) at 1 o’clock in the morning, Dr. was beaten due to the death of a patient under treatment in the CCU of the hospital. A doctor named Sajib Kazi. Sajeev, the victim of the attack, was a medical officer of the hospital and working in the CCU.

CCTV footage of the hospital shows that after the death of the patient, the relatives entered the CCU and first ransacked the doctor’s room. Later, the doctor started beating Sajeev. At one point, they dragged him down from the fourth floor and started beating him. At this time, panic spread in the hospital. At one point, other doctors came forward and rescued him. After that, the doctors announced a complete shutdown along with the emergency department, demanding a proper investigation of the incident and the arrest of the accused within 24 hours. Since then, all medical services except the emergency department were closed.
