Sylhet representative: Another 8 million cubic feet of gas is being added to the national grid transmission line from Sylhet from 6 pm on Monday. This gas will be connected to the transmission line from well number 1 of Sylhet’s Biyanibazar gas station. Analysts think that it will be possible to reduce the ongoing gas crisis. Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company Limited (Bapex) started drilling from 1 well in Biyanibazar, which was abandoned, last September.

On Monday (November 28) at three o’clock Sylhet Gas Field Limited (SGFL) managing director. Mizanur Rahman confirmed the matter.

Mizanur Rahman said, after the gas pressure testing (testing), all technical preparations for gas supply to the national grid have been completed at the final stage. Although gas is supposed to be supplied to the national transmission line after 12 midnight on Sunday, the supply of gas to the national grid will start from this evening subject to the final approval of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources. He said that 8 million cubic feet of gas per day can be supplied to the national transmission line from this well. At present, 7 million cubic feet of gas is being supplied to the national transmission line from well No. 2 of Sylhet’s Biyanibazar gas field.

According to SGFL sources, gas extraction started in 1991 from well number 1 of Biyanibazar gas field. It was closed in 2014. Mining resumed in 2016, but was stopped again at the end of that year. The well was abandoned since early 2017. After that, Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production (BAPEX) found gas reserves by conducting exploration in that well. In view of this, the re-excavation (work over) of the well started on September 10. After confirming the availability of gas in the well, after the gas pressure test from November 10, the well was prepared to give gas to the national transmission line quickly.

Currently, the well has more than 70 billion cubic feet of gas stored at a depth of 3,254 meters. After the gas pressure test, it was found that the well is capable of supplying 10 to 12 million cubic feet of gas per day. However, considering various technical aspects, eight million cubic feet of gas will be supplied daily. SGFL expects to get 125 to 130 barrels of condensate gas per day.

Mentioning the good news of gas supply from this well to the national transmission line during the gas crisis in the country, Mizanur Rahman said, “After finding gas in well No. 1 of Biyanibazar gas field, the Ministry of Electricity, Energy and Mineral Resources has asked to finish the ancillary work quickly and supply it to the national transmission line. For this we have been able to successfully speed up the work. Apart from this, 3D seismic survey is going on in various areas of Biyanibazar. There is a possibility of getting new gas field from that survey.

At present there are five gas fields under SGFL. These are Haripur gas field, Rashidpur gas field, Chatak gas field, Kailashtila gas field and Biyanibazar gas field. Among them, Chatak gas field is abandoned. The remaining 12 wells are currently producing 91 million cubic feet of gas per day.

Mizanur Rahman said that by the year 2025, all the companies in the country have taken a plan to increase 618 million gas through digging (work over) about 46 wells.
