Own Correspondent, Lohagara: There is news of the escape of an accused named Saiful Islam (33) from Lohagara police custody. The accused escaped from Lohagara police station duty office at 9 a.m. on Monday, 9 September. In the early morning of the day of the incident, the mob arrested him from a house in Bahadur Para of West Kalauzan of Lohagara Upazila and handed him over to the police. It is said that he later managed to escape.
The accused Saiful Islam is said to be the son of Nazeer Ahmed of Ward No. 7 of Kalauzan Union and a local Jubo League leader. However, it is not known which case Saiful is accused of. In connection with the escape of the accused from custody, 4 persons, including the officer-in-charge and duty officer of Lohagara police station, have been withdrawn by the higher authorities.
According to sources, the accused Saiful Islam was in hiding since the political change in the country on August 5. Many in the area were outraged by his past activities. As a result, the angry crowd arrested him and handed him over to the police on the basis of secret information. According to the relevant sources, the police are making efforts to re-arrest the absconding accused.
