Khagrachari Correspondent: The Khagrachari-Panchari regional road is in danger of disappearing due to the erosion of the Chengi river due to recent hill slides. If the erosion increases, some villages along with roads will be lost in the river. Communication between Panchari and Khagrachari district headquarters will be severed. Locals have demanded to take immediate measures to prevent erosion.
Going to the surface, it can be seen that a large part of the Khagrachari-Panchari road has already broken and disappeared into the river due to the erosion of the river. As the erosion continues, the two unions of the district headquarters and Panchari upazila may be cut off. The lush North Hedman Para village is in danger of disappearing into the Chengi River. About a hundred families are at risk of becoming homeless. The villagers demanded to protect the road and the village.
Farooq Hossain, Alamgir Kabir, and Jinia Chakma, who were traveling on the road, said that communication with the district headquarters will be cut off if the river erosion is prolonged. The road connection between Panchari Upazila and district headquarters will be cut off. Besides, neighboring villages will disappear. I request you to take quick action to prevent erosion.
The roads and highways department has taken measures on a temporary basis to prevent road erosion. However, the Road Department has requested the Water Development Board to take measures to prevent river erosion.
Khagrachari sub-assistant engineer Priyadarshi Chakma said that the road department has taken measures to protect the road temporarily. However, I have requested the Water Development Board to permanently protect the road by installing blocks.
The water development board says that the project to prevent erosion is already underway. Work will be done to prevent erosion by installing tubes on an urgent basis.
