Karnaphuli Correspondent: A local crowd arrested 4 people in Karnaphuli during a robbery attempt in the identity of ‘joint forces’ and handed them over to the police. The incident took place at Altafia Yashinia Al Ejaz International Orphanage in Khwajanagar last Thursday at 11 p.m. Police said that a special forces identity card, walkie-talkie, and newspaper ID card were recovered from the arrested persons.
It is known that nine persons, under the guise of ‘joint force detectives’, tried to loot cash in a madrasa and orphanage in the Khwajanagar area of Uttara in the name of a search. They blocked the people and tried to escape in a microbus with a total of Tk 3 lakh in cash, dirhams, and rials given by expatriates. Seeing the incident, the local people united and arrested 4 people, including the microbus driver. Meanwhile, 5 more people escaped. Later, when the locals informed the police, the police patrol team and the army patrol team arrived at the spot and handed over the arrested persons to the police.
According to the police, the arrested persons are Bidyut Dev (35), son of Bidhan Dev of Napora village of Banskhali upazila, and Vidyut Dev (35), son of Azharul Islam of Ballardiya village of Sharishabara municipality of Sharishabari district. Suhel Anwar (40), son of deceased Jamal Hossain of Pekua police station in Cox’s Bazar district. Shafiqul Islam (48) and microbus driver Suman Kanti Dey (40) of Madhubabur’s house in Poddar Para of Chittagong’s Bhujpur police station.
When asked about this, Karnaphuli Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Zahir Hossain said that after receiving information about the incident, the police went to the spot and arrested 4 people. During this time, special forces ID cards, walkie-talkies, and journalist ID cards were recovered from them.
