Over half a hundred factories in Ashland were declared closed due to labor protests

The Crime Desk: In the face of protests by job seekers and garment workers, the authorities have announced a holiday for over half a hundred garment factories in the industrial area of Ashulia. In addition, several factories have continued production inside by placing barricades in front of them.

At around 10 am on Wednesday, the factory authorities were forced to announce a holiday for more than half a hundred factories located on both sides of the Nabinagar-Chandra highway and Baipail-Abdullahpur road.

According to the industrial police, the workers joined the work in the factory like every day from morning. But he went out without entering the factory and working. After that, they protested on the highway. Workers demand that women and men workers should be taken equally in the factory. It cannot be allowed that all women work in a factory and men work outside. Due to such a demand, the highways and roads of the entire area of Ashulia became jammed. So holidays are declared in factories.

In this regard, the factory authorities said, as long as the workers continue to protest in this way, there is no way but to give leave to protect the factory.

Many workers halted production and went in front of other factories and pelted bricks to shut down factories. Later, the authorities were forced to declare those factories as holidays. Later, the workers came down on the Bypile-Abdullahpur road and blocked it. Till 10:30 AM, at least half a hundred factories in the industrial area of Ashulia were declared closed.

From Bypile to Jirabo on the Abdullahpur-Bypile road around 10 am, the workers took up positions at various points in a scattered state even though the factory was declared a holiday. Due to this, a severe traffic jam has been created on the road.

Meanwhile, job seekers and workers of various factories protested at various points, including Palashbari, Muzarmil, and Jiranibazar on the Nabinagar-Chandra highway. Traffic stopped on the highway. Besides, hundreds of workers protested in front of the Narban Comtex factory in the Chakraborty area and blocked the road. Meanwhile, the angry workers vandalized a private car. However, the army, BGB, and industrial police are working to control the situation.

Apart from this, several factories in Jirani Bazar, Tenguri Gohailbari, and Machinpar areas have continued production inside.

Police Superintendent of Industrial Police-1. Sarwar Alam said that in the face of workers’ protests, the authorities were forced to declare at least 60 factories, including Hamim and Sharmin, on both sides of the road up to the Jirabo area of the Bypail-Abdullahpur road. From 8:30 in the morning, the workers created a strange situation. Later, the authorities declared the factory holiday. Workers are still on the road; we are trying to keep the situation normal.
