Nagar Reporter: Pedal rickshaw drivers and CNG drivers vandalized battery rickshaws in various places, including Teri Bazar in the city. At 11:30 pm yesterday, pedal rickshaw drivers unitedly vandalized a battery rickshaw in the Teribazar area. Meanwhile, CNG drivers joined them. A fight took place between the two. Panic spread throughout the area till half past noon. There is a shortage of public transport, including rickshaws and CNG, in the surrounding areas. Similarly, in Ambagan-Wireless-Oxygen area of Pahartali yesterday, pedal rickshaw drivers unitedly protested and vandalized battery rickshaws.
After the incident of battery rickshaw vandalism in Teribazar, all the battery rickshaw drivers joined together and held a protest march with sticks at various places, including Teribazar-Ghatfarhadbeg-Andarkillah. Earlier on Tuesday, pedal-powered rickshaw drivers staged a protest against battery rickshaws in front of the Chittagong Press Club. As many battery rickshaws as were found on Jamal Khan Road were overturned during the protest rally.
Yesterday also at 11:30 am, the pedal rickshaw drivers united and vandalized all the battery rickshaws they found in the Teribazar area. Meanwhile, hundreds of battery rickshaws from the entire area, including Qorbanigajna-Achhadganj-Baluardighi, Katapahar Lane, and Ghatfarhadbeg, come through the Teribazar area to the mouth of Hazarigali.
These roads are always jammed with battery operated rickshaws. Due to such a large number of battery rickshaws, pedestrians do not get a chance to walk.
