Gazipur Correspondent: In Gazipur Kashimpur Central Jail, two prisoners were sentenced to death. An inmate named Hannan Mia (41) has been reported dead.
The incident took place on Wednesday (August 28) in the psychiatric ward of the prison. The deceased Hannan Mia is the son of the late Abul Hasem Fakir of Kandapara village of Kalmakanda upazila in Netrakona.
According to the prison authorities, the truth of the incident has been confirmed to the media, Gazipur Metropolitan Police Konabari Police Station OC Md. Shah Alam said.
OC said Hannan Mia was incarcerated in the mental ward of Kashimpur Central Jail. He is a death sentence prisoner in a murder case at Kalmakanda police station. His prisoner number is 4050/A.
OC Shah Alam said that on Wednesday morning, Hannan Mia got into a fight with a prisoner of that ward. He suffered a serious head injury. Later, the prison guards rescued him in critical condition and first took him to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur. After being taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the afternoon for better treatment, the doctor declared Hannan Mia dead.
In this regard, the inspector in charge of the DMK police outpost, Bachchu Mia, said, “Prisoner Hannan died due to a head injury. The body has been kept in the morgue for post-mortem.
