Gazipur Correspondent: The workers of Ibn Sina Pharmaceuticals in Kaliakor, Gazipur, are protesting by blocking the Dhaka-Tangail highway with 25-point demands, including an increase in salary and the removal of dishonest officials. Due to this, traffic on the highway is stopped, and common passengers are suffering. The workers of Ibn Sina Pharmaceuticals drug factory located in Safipur area of the upazila went on strike after 8 a.m. on Wednesday.
The agitators took part in this movement to demand various demands, including job permanence, a salary hike, and the removal of dishonest officials. Due to the protest, a severe traffic jam was created on the Dhaka-Tangail highway. Common people suffer from it.
The agitators said that their main demands are regularization of jobs, adjustment of existing salaries, and equal payment of festive allowances (Eid and Baisakhi). They also alleged that several dishonest officials have been treating the workers inhumanely for a long time and depriving them of their fair dues.
They say that they have been demanding from the authorities for a long time, but no solution has been found. In this context, forced to protect their rights, they started the movement. Also, during the rule of the Awami League, many people supported by the government have been appointed, and they should be removed quickly.
No response was received from the company till the time of writing this report at 1 pm. The army and the industrial police administration have started negotiations with the workers. The administration has assured the workers that their demands will be taken into consideration and resolved.
An official, who did not wish to be named, said the workers have announced to continue the strike until their demands are met. If there is a reasonable demand, it must be fulfilled. Ibn Sina’s authority always acted on behalf of the workers.
Gazipur Shilpa Police Additional Superintendent of Police Imran Ahmed said that there has been a problem with the salary and allowances in that institution for a few days. We discussed with the authorities and talked to the workers. They promised to leave the highway.
