The Crime Desk: Former Awami League Government Minister of State for Information Mohammad A. Arafat has been arrested. He was arrested from the Gulshan area of the capital on Tuesday (August 27).

He became a member of the Central Executive Committee of the Awami League in December 2022. Since then, he started working on the international affairs of the party. Arafat got the Awami League’s nomination in the Dhaka-17 seat by-election when actor Farooq died. In this election held in 2023, he defeated Hero Alam and became a member of Parliament.

Finally, after the fall of the government led by Sheikh Hasina in the face of mass agitation on August 5, he gave a status on Facebook on August 15. In it, he wrote, Sheikh Hasina did not want to remain in power over so many dead bodies, so she gave up power. But those who wanted to come to power over so many dead bodies are now part of the power, so why are they throwing more dead bodies? He also commented that more grief has come down in the life of the nation in the mournful month of August.

Earlier, during the anti-discrimination student movement, he also commented that the agitators were ‘intoxicated’. Talking to reporters, Arafat said, ‘BNP-Jamaat terrorists are vandalizing the streets and destroying state property. Evidence was found that many of the students were drugged. So that they can come before the police to get the chest. You know that there have been terrorist attacks in different countries in the world before. They were also drugged in America during 9/11.
