The Crime Desk: 109 Ansar members arrested in the case filed on charges of clashing with students and vandalism in front of the secretariat have been taken to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka.
They were produced in the court in the case filed in Shahbagh, Ramna, and Paltan police stations till 2.30 pm on Monday.
A police officer working in the court confirmed the matter. He said that the arrested Ansar members have been kept in court lockup. He said that the number of arrests may increase.
Despite the government’s assurance that the demands would be met, Ansar members continued their protest by blocking the secretariat on Sunday. At one stage, they clashed with the students. At least 50 people were injured in this incident.
Dhaka Medical College Hospital Police Outpost Inspector Bachchu Mia said that at least 40 people were treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital till 11 pm yesterday.
Eyewitnesses said that the situation turned violent when more than 1,000 students arrived in the secretariat area after learning that the Ansar members had besieged the secretariat despite being assured of fulfilling their demands. Later Ansar members were forced to flee from there.
