43 upazilas affected by flood, 18 lakh people affected

The Crime Desk: The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief said that 6 districts of the country have been affected by floods. In an information statement on Thursday (August 22) morning, the ministry said that about 1.8 million people in 6 districts have been affected by this flood. It is also reported that one of them died in Fulgazi upazila of Feni district after drowning in flood water.

According to the information bulletin, the meteorological agencies have quoted that moderate to heavy rains are expected in the north-eastern region of the country and its adjacent uplands in the next 48 hours. It also mentioned that the water level of the main rivers in the northeastern and eastern parts of the country is increasing.

The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, showing the damage due to the flood situation since August 20, said that till now the number of flood-affected districts is 6. They are Comilla, Feni, Chittagong, Khagrachari, Noakhali, and Moulvibazar. 43 upazilas of these districts were flooded. In these six districts, a total of 1 lakh 89 thousand 663 families have become waterlogged. A total of 17 lakh 96 thousand 248 people have been affected.

The ministry also informed us that the relief distribution program is ongoing in the flood-affected districts. According to the report, a total of 1,359 shelters have been opened to provide shelter to water-logged or affected people. A total of 17,882 people and 3,486 cattle have been sheltered in the shelters.

It has also been informed that a total of 309 medical teams are operational to provide medical services to the victims of 6 districts.
