Manikganj Correspondent: Police have arrested four people in the case of newborn theft in Manikganj’s Saturia. The rescued newborn was returned to his mother’s arms.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Saturia police station Sukumar Biswas confirmed this on Sunday (November 27) around 1:30 p.m.
The arrested are Iman Ali (38), son of Shamsul Haque of Kamta-Fukurhati, Manikganj, Iman Ali’s wife Maina Khatun (32), Jasim Uddin’s daughter Shirin Akhtar (26) and Shirin Akhtar’s husband Akhtar Hossain (34).
OC Sukumar Biswas said that Shiuli Akhtar, wife of Jafar Mia of Nali area of Shivalay upazila, was admitted to Riya Hospital in Nayadingi area of Saturia on the morning of November 19. There she gave birth to a son through an operation. An hour after the delivery, Namzul Imlam, Iman Ali, Maina Khatun, Samshul Haq stole the newborn baby with the help of Al Mamun, the manager of the hospital. Shiuli Akhter recovered and started searching for her child in various places including her relatives. Shiuli Akhter complained about child theft at Saturia police station yesterday on Saturday around 11 pm. Then on Saturday midnight, the newborn was rescued by conducting a raid at Majhipara in Fukurhati, Saturia. Four people were arrested at the same time.
Manikganj Superintendent of Police Golam Azad Khan said that the child was rescued in just three hours after the complaint. Four persons have been arrested.
