It is known that some members of the Sheikh family also left the country before August 5. Most of the members of the Bengali family associated with politics are no longer in the country. They left the country before or after August 5.
According to several media reports, Sheikh Hasina and her younger sister Sheikh Rehana left the country on a military plane after resigning on August 5. Both of them were in Ganabhaban that day. It is believed that except for Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana, no other family members were in the country at that time. If they had, they would have left the country on that plane.
Sheikh Hasina’s son, Sajib Wazed Joy, is staying in the United States. Sheikh Hasina’s daughter Saima Wazed is working as a regional director of WHO in Delhi. He was in Delhi when the Awami League government fell. Saima meets her mother and aunt after going to Delhi. Sheikh Rehana’s daughter, Tulip Siddique, who lives in London, is a British minister. Sheikh Rehana’s son Radwan Mujib Siddique was not in the country when the government fell.
Another member of the Bangabandhu family, Dhaka South City Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapas, left for Singapore two days before the fall of the government. He left the country on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on July 3. The Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight left for Singapore at 8:30 am on Saturday.
The elder brother of Sheikh Fazle Noor Tapas, Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash, is the chairman of the Awami Jubo League. No one in the organization has information about whether he is in the country or abroad. A Jubo League leader told the media on Saturday that Fazle Shams Parash is not even in the country. He went abroad sometime during the movement.
Awami League presidium member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Salim is in the country or abroad. Sources claim he could not leave the country.
As a member of the Bangabandhu family, Abdul Hasanat Abdullah was an influential leader in Barisal. He moved to India with his young son at the time of the beginning of the student movement. Azmir Sharif left the country, saying that he would go on a trip. Another of his sons, former mayor of Barisal City Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah and younger brother of Abul Hasanat Abdullah, and current mayor of Barisal City Serniabat Abul Khair Abdullah, are hiding in the country.
Former MP of Bagerhat-1 Constituency Sheikh Helal left the country before the fall of the government, reliable sources said. Although he has left the country, his son, former MP of Bagerhat-2 Constituency Sheikh Sarhan Naser, is hiding in the country. Sheikh Helal’s brother, former MP of Khulna-2 constituency Sheikh Salauddin Jewel, was seen in Tungipara after the fall of the government, locals said. Since then, he is in hiding.
