The Crime Desk: The agitating policemen have withdrawn all programs, including the strike demanding reforms in the police. They have also announced to join work from Monday (August 12). Inspector Zahidul Islam and Constable Shoaib Hasan announced this after a meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs.
They told the media, “Most of the demands we made to the government have been assured to be accepted. Therefore, we announce the withdrawal of the strike. I hope everyone will return to their respective responsibilities nicely.’
Incidentally, the Bangladesh Police Subordinate Employees Organization announced a strike on August 6 due to several demands following the incident of casualties in the clashes between protesters and the police nationwide centered on the students’ quota reform movement.
Earlier, Home Affairs Adviser Brigadier (retd.) Sakhawat Hossain held a meeting with the protesting policemen in the conference room of the Ministry of Home Affairs on Sunday night. Various officials, including the IGP of Police and the DG of RAB, were present in the meeting.
At that time, M. Sakhawat Hossain said in response to a question of journalists in the secretariat, “You know what the situation can be if the police do not return to the country.” A little while ago, I saw a fight in the bank. It seems like it’s grabbing whatever it can. First of all, I would like to say that for those who have not yet returned to work, the last date to return is Thursday.
M. Sakhawat Hossain said that if you do not join by Thursday, we will assume that you are not willing to work. I discussed this with the IGP of Police, the DG of RAB, and the Commissioner of DMP. Will go to any place by Thursday.
He said you will be on duty from Thursday. Do not touch anyone unnecessarily. We will do the trial process. But the judiciary will judge them. Punishment will be given to those who are guilty, big or small. No one can blame.
The advisor of the Ministry of Home Affairs said to the public, “You should not raise your hand against the police.” You are suffering on your own. At night, I received calls that robbery was taking place in different places. I say, Allah, Allah, do it. If there is no police in case of robbery, what will you do?
He also said, I have just seen the injured policemen. We will do as far as we need to. You join by Thursday. It is the first priority. A little while ago, I saw a part of the Ansar blocking the road. But they have demands. Everyone has a claim. I also have a claim. I demand that you go back, and I will immediately do whatever is necessary as Home Affairs Adviser. I am not a political person. I will do what you say.
