Fire and vandalism in various police stations and upazilas of Chittagong

The Crime Desk: After the news of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s resignation spread, there have been incidents of attacks and arson in different districts and upazilas of Chittagong Division, police stations, public and private establishments, and residences of Awami League leaders and activists. When various police stations were attacked, the police stopped them. During this time, many people were injured.

Hathajari: A Hathajari representative said that a group of angry people vandalized the upazila Awami League office located in front of Hathajari police station yesterday evening. Later, he entered the police station and set it on fire. The police station burned a police car and some motorcycles. After the incident, the students of the madrasa were urged to go inside on the microphone of the Hathajari big madrasa. During the attack on the police station, the police fired tear gas and several rounds of fire in self-defense and to protect government property. Six people were injured. When the injured were first brought to the Upazila Health Complex, three of them were sent to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital as their condition was critical. Some buildings and offices were vandalized in Sarkarhat Bazar. Shops were closed in different markets under the upazila.

Fatikchari: A Fatikchari representative said that people attacked and vandalized various offices in Fatikchari. Yesterday afternoon, the upazila Awami League office was vandalized, and various furniture from the office was brought to the road and set on fire. Similarly, they ransacked the office of the College Chhatra League and the flower shop inside Fatikchari College.

Dohazari: A Chandanish representative said that yesterday, besides the victory celebration, a group of people attacked and vandalized various government and private offices. Thousands of traffic police were vandalized. Bricks were thrown at Dohazari Highway police station, breaking the front glass of the police station. In some places of the upazila, the banners hung in the offices, shops, and various market points of the Awami League party leaders were also demolished.

Mirsarai: A Mirsarai representative said that excited students vandalized the Mirsarai Upazila Awami League office. They brought the office furniture to the highway and set it on fire. Apart from this, offices, shops, and residences of Awami League, Jubo League, and Chhatra League leaders in different areas including Mirsarai Sadar, Bariyahat, Kamaldah, and Nizampur were also vandalized. Shahidul Islam, OC of Mirsarai Police Station, said, “We want to help the protesting crowd.” Again, I wish everyone’s cooperation.

Banskhali: A Banskhali representative said that miscreants have vandalized and set fire to the Upazila Awami League office. They vandalized and set fire to the toll plazas of Muktijoddha Kompleng and Oilerdwip Setu.

Khagrachari: Khagrachari representative said, Khagrachari district. Miscreants set fire to the League office. Two men set fire to the office in the coconut plantation area yesterday afternoon. After about half an hour, the fire service came to extinguish the fire. Then district a. League general secretary and municipal mayor Nirmalendu Chowdhury, Zilla Parishad chairman’s official bungalow, office secretary Chandan Kumar Dey, district A. League leader Biswajit Biswas and municipal councilor Parimal Debnath were attacked by miscreants.

Rangamati: A Rangamati representative said that the traffic police vandalized in Banrupa, the heart of Rangamati city, and municipal Awami League president Md. Bricks were pelted and glass was broken at the Needs Hill View Residential Hotel owned by Solaiman. The District Awami League office has been burned. An attack was attempted on the residence of Rangamati Municipality Mayor and District Jubo League President Akbar Hossain Chowdhury in the Happy Mor area. However, some of them stopped the attackers. Bricks were hurled at Chittagong Hill Regional Council’s rest hall.

Maheshkhali: A Maheshkhali representative said that 5 offices of the Awami League were vandalized and set on fire in various unions of Maheshkhali. Upazila Awami League office, Bara Maheshkhali Union Awami League office, Hwanak Union Awami League office, Hwanak Jubo League office, Kalamar Rhama Union Awami League office, and Union Parishad office were set on fire.

Meanwhile, the violent attack by the agitated crowd after the political change may spread the violence between the groups that dominate the area locally in Maheshkhali, the locals fear.

Kutubdia: Miscreants attacked and set fire to the residence of Awami League president Aurangzeb Matbar in Kutubdia upazila of Kangbazar. At that time, 3 other houses adjacent to that house were burned. The attack took place in the Nazar Ali Matbar Para area of the Koyarbil Union of Upazila yesterday afternoon. Locals and eyewitnesses said that none of the students or general public took part in the attack. The attack was carried out under the cover of a student procession on the orders of some terrorists and influential people. They also said that the house of Azamgir Matbar, Rubel, Alamgir Matbar, brother of Upazila Awami League president Koyarbil Union Parishad chairman, was burned.
