Chandpur Correspondent: After the resignation of Sheikh Hasina, various government and private establishments and the houses of Awami League leaders and workers in Chandpur city were attacked and vandalized, and arson occurred.
Soon after the news of Sheikh Hasina’s resignation was announced, the students from all directions came down to the streets in a procession, cheering for victory. Hundreds of people gathered at the swearing square in Chandpur city.
On Monday afternoon, leaders and workers of various parties, protesting students, parents, and people from all walks of life, took a stand and marched in the city. At this time, students of Qaumi Madrasa were also seen marching in the city.
At one stage, Chandpur Municipal Office, Social Welfare Minister Dr. Deepumani’s Kadamtala Road residence, and Puranbazar Degree College Principal Ratan Kumar Majumdar’s Adalatpara residence were vandalized and set on fire.
The District Awami League office was attacked and burned again. Eyewitnesses said that there was also an attack on the premises of Awami League leaders in the vicinity of the Nabunbazar intersection.
In Chandpur, thousands of people are currently staying on the streets. Banks and business establishments were vandalized and looted. There are reports that the violence has spread from the city to the rural areas.
Meanwhile, in the afternoon, thousands of leaders and activists from various political parties, including the BNP, gathered at the swearing-in square and celebrated the victory.
