The Crime Desk: The sad August began today Thursday (August 1). In this month, the most brutal and heinous murder in the history of the world took place in Bangladesh. On August 15, 1975, the great hero of the Bengali nation’s liberation movement, the great leader of Bengali freedom, the humiliated-deprived-oppressed, the father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was killed along with most of his family members by the enemy of humanity, reactionary assassins.
As part of a deep conspiracy of anti-independence national and international groups, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the greatest Bengali of all time, the architect of the independent Bangladesh state, the eternal source of constant motivation for Bengal and the emancipation of Bengalis, was killed.
On that day, Bangabandhu’s consort, noblewoman Begum Fazilatunnessa Mujib, Bangabandhu’s only brother Sheikh Abu Nasser, the father of the nation’s eldest son Captain Sheikh Kamal, the second son of the brave freedom fighter Lieutenant Sheikh Jamal, and the youngest son, the innocent child Sheikh Russell, were victims of this cruelest murder in history.
After the assassination of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the indemnity law was issued to stop the prosecution of this murder. For 21 long years, from August 15, 1975, the Bengali nation was forced to bear the burden of the stigma of injustice.
Another brutal murder occurred in this month of mourning. In 2004, 24 people were killed in a grenade attack on an Awami League rally. The target of that attack was Bangabandhu’s daughter and current Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The ruling Awami League will observe this month of mourning August with due dignity and a mournful atmosphere. On this occasion, Awami League and its affiliated and fraternal organizations have taken various programs, including a month-long discussion meeting.
