Dhaka Bureau: Bangladesh Police has now moved closer to the people in various activities including community policing-beat policing said Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun. He said, by doing this, suppression of militancy and terrorism has become easier.
He said this while addressing a special guest at a function organized at Rajarbag Police Auditorium in the capital on the occasion of ‘Community Policing Day-2022’ on Saturday (October 29). Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal was the chief guest on the occasion.
The IGP said that when Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina first assumed power, you have seen the situation in the hilly areas. Terrorist activities were going on there. At this time, along with the offensive operation in coordination with the law and order forces, we also gave them an opportunity to return to normal life through their surrender. Since then, the breeze of peace has been blowing in the hilly areas.
He said, the manner in which terrorist activities have been suppressed or controlled during this government is appreciated worldwide today. We have successfully countered terrorism and militancy with the help of law enforcement and community policing members.
He also said that community police activities have started in Bangladesh. Now the police are the people, the people are the police. Everyone is working together. Now every month open house day is observed in every police station across the country. Where ordinary people talk directly to police officers, raise their problems. By doing this, how the common people are getting service from the police stations, what kind of crime is happening more in that area, why is this happening – the police is taking measures regarding this.
He said that the police are performing duties in 6 thousand 533 areas across the country. Besides, 1 lakh 85 thousand 348 crime prevention and remedial measures have been taken during the last 2021-2022 total of 4 thousand 356 open house days across the country. During this time, 33 thousand 82 meetings of crime prevention bit policing have been conducted.
