Rangamati Correspondent: A fire has taken place at Karnaphuli Paper Mills (KPM), a state-owned paper mill located at Chandraghona in Kaptai Upazila of Rangamati.

The fire broke out on Friday (July 12) at around 1 a.m. while the factory was in operation. However, the fire brigade brought the fire under control within an hour.

According to KPM sources, after the fire broke out in production machine 2 of the KPM factory, the security department of the mill and the Kaptai Fire Service tried for an hour and brought the fire under control. The production machine’s belt was burned in the fire incident. Besides, several raw materials and finished paper are reported to have been damaged. However, the exact extent of the damage was not immediately known.

Kaptai Fire Service Station Officer Md. Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury said we reached KPM around 1.15 pm after receiving information about the incident. The fire was brought under control after an hour of effort. It is believed that the fire started due to an electrical short circuit or internal friction in the machine.
