Nagar Reporter: Retired Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police of Industrial Police (Chittagong) on the charge of acquiring wealth beyond the known income. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed two separate cases against Abul Hashem and his wife, Tahreena Begum.
On Thursday (July 4), two cases were filed at the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Chittagong District Integrated-1 office by Assistant Director of ACC Chittagong District Integrated-2 Office Musabbir Ahmed.
The accused are Md. Abul Hashem (61) and his wife Taherina Begum (51) of Gura Mia secretary’s house in Raujan police station’s Gashi village. The couple lives in Rupsi Housing on Polytechnical College Road under the Khulshi police station in the city.
ACC Deputy Director of Chittagong District Office 2 Atiqul Alam confirmed the case to the media. He told the media that he was a retired senior assistant superintendent of police. Two separate cases have been filed against Abul Hashem and his wife, Tahreena Begum. In both cases, Md. Abul Hashem has been accused.
According to the statement of the case, the ACC started a corruption investigation against the police couple based on the complaints received on the ACC hotline in the beginning of 2017. On October 28, 2018, the ACC issued a notice to Abul Hashem and his wife, Tahreena, to submit their assets. They filed the asset details on November 27 of the same year. Abul Hashem retired from service on October 16, 2022.
Md. Abul Hashem concealed the information of acquiring wealth of 4 lakh 45 thousand 962 TK’s in the asset declaration filed for dishonest purpose and acquiring and enjoying wealth of 18 lakh 60 thousand 294 rupees, which is inconsistent with the known source of income under the Corruption Commission Act, 26 (2) of 2004, and a case has been filed for committing an offense punishable under Section 27(1).
Apart from this, in another case, Tahrina Begum has been accused of concealing the information on the acquisition of assets worth 6 lakh, 84 thousand, and 366 rupees in the statement of assets filed and the acquisition and enjoyment of assets worth 43 lakh, 32 thousand, and 456 rupees, which is inconsistent with her known source of income. (1) in clause, and her husband accused Md. Hashem and Taherina of committing an offense punishable under Section 109 of the Penal Code for acquiring wealth in the name of wife Taherina Begum through mutual connivance with money earned by dishonest means while Abul Hashem was employed by the police and for aiding and abetting the enjoyment of the property by the wife. If the involvement of someone else is found during the investigation of the case, it will be taken into consideration.
