On July 1, 2016, the terrorist attack on Holy Artisan Bakery in Gulshan, the capital, shocked the entire country. The reputation is damaged in the outside world as well. Eight militants, including Tamim Chowdhury, the main planner of the attack on Holy Artisan Bakery, were killed in the army operation.
Today marks 8 years since the brutal terrorist attack on Holy Artisan Bakery. Even after 8 months have passed since the judgment of the High Court, it has not yet been published. The state’s chief law officer says a decision on death sentences to life imprisonment will be made after the full verdict is in hand. Eight more people are in jail.
On December 7, 2019, Dhaka’s Special Anti-Terrorism Tribunal sentenced seven militants to death and acquitted one in the case of the brutal attack. The defendants later appealed against the verdict. In October last year, after hearing the death reference and appeal, the High Court bench led by Justice Sahidul Karim reduced the death sentences of seven militants and sentenced them to life imprisonment. But the full verdict has not yet been published.
Attorney General Amin Uddin asked how many innocent people they have killed in the name of religion and extremism. Now those whose orders were given were behind, but they supported them with weapons and money. They were part of the original plan. As a result, I think there is no opportunity to show any sympathy towards them.
He said that those involved in terrorist attacks should be given the death penalty. At this time, he also said that the appeal decision will be taken if the full verdict is received.
Attorney General Amin Uddin said that after receiving the full verdict, we will talk and communicate with the relevant authorities of the state. We will take further steps as per their instructions. But now that we haven’t gotten the full verdict, we will decide what to do after we get it.
According to the police investigation, the attack involved the new JMB, which, after the incident, claimed to be the international terrorist organization IS.
