Dhaka Bureau: Members of parliament from the ruling party have expressed their opinion against giving the opportunity to whiten black money. They said this would create reluctance in the minds of legitimate taxpayers.
Several MPs of the government party said this while participating in the general discussion on the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2024–25 in the National Parliament on Saturday. However, some spoke in favor of giving people the people the opportunity to turn black money into white money.
Dr. participated in the discussion. Gopal Dutta said that the budget has discussed white and black money. As a tax payer, I have to pay more than 30 percent tax if I have 30 lakh rupees. But the person who did not show the money last year is legitimizing that undisclosed income by paying 15 percent tax. This will make the right taxpayer reluctant to pay taxes.
He also said, We always talk about black and white money. But the finance minister did not say anything in the budget speech about informal gray money (related to tax evasion) or the informal economy, which is not taxed and cannot be regulated in any position. Money laundering cannot be stopped unless it is curtailed.
Former Health Minister Zahid Malek took part in the budget discussion and said that it would not be right to take the opportunity to turn black money into white. He also said that if corruption and money laundering can be stopped, there will be no need for opportunities to launder black money.
In response to the criticism, Housing and Public Works Minister Ram Ubaidul Moktadir Chowdhury said that the reality is that black money is in our market. No one criticizes how to use this money. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam criticized Alamgir and said that the country’s economy would be destroyed. But he does not say that in 2007 (2006), his leader Khaleda Zia made 1 crore, 33 lakh, 14 thousand, 710 taka by paying 5 percent tax.
Jatiya Party’s Nurun Nahar Begum said that there was an opportunity to whiten black money in the budget. With this opportunity, many criminals will be able to launder black money in the country in addition to sending money outside the country.
