Bogra Correspondent: Four convicts who were sentenced to death had escaped from the Bogra District Jail. Four prisoners were escaping through the roof of the condemned cell of the prison along the river bank of Karatoya. They proceeded along the river bank for about half a kilometer from the prison to the north. The destination was Bamboo Sanko, next to the Fateh Ali Bridge in the city under construction. Later, the police conducted a raid and arrested them in the fish market area of Chelopara Chashibazar in the city on Wednesday morning. Before that, they were caught by some youths. Bogra Superintendent of Police (SP) Sudeep Kumar Chakraborty said, “The accused use their used bed sheets as stairs. They got out by leaking from the roof of the prison. They then escaped by climbing over the boundary wall of the prison on Tuesday at midnight. We were informed by the district jail soon after the escape. We were given their pictures from the prison. We accordingly started the expedition at night. Later in the morning, they were arrested again in Chashibazar. After their arrest, when they were taken to the district DB office, the jail superintendent came and identified them. There will be a case in this case. They will be taken to court again in this case.
The accused are Nazrul Islam Manjur (60) of Diadanga village of Bhurungamari upazila of Kurigram, Amir Hamza alias Amir Hossain (38) of Fajarkandi village of Madhabadi upazila of Narsingdi, Farid Sheikh (28) of Kuturbari Paschimpara of Bogra Sadar, and Ult Purbpara of Kahalu upazila of Bogra. Zakaria (31). Among them, Zakaria was sentenced to death in the case of killing Naim, a child of Kahalur in Bogra, and burning the body in a furnace. Besides, Nazrul Islam Manjur and Amir Hossain got death sentences in four murder cases.
As mentioned in the statement of the case, the four accused, who were sentenced to death, were lodged in Ward No. 2 of Jaflong Cell of Bogra District Jail. At 3:05 pm on Tuesday night, Jailer Swapan Mia saw a rope made of knotted bed sheets hanging from the prison wall on the north side of the jail. The matter was immediately informed to the Assistant Chief Warden Dulal and Jail Superintendent. Later, Chief Jailer Aminul Haque said that there are no four death row prisoners in the Jaflong cell.
Going to the cell, it can be seen that the roof of ward number 2 of the Jaflong cell of the prison is leaking. Later, the matter was reported to the Bogra Superintendent of Police. Immediately, the police launched an operation to arrest the escaped prisoners. They were arrested in the Chashibazar area around 4:10 a.m. At this time, a steel sheet 4.3 inches long and a screwdriver 7 inches long were recovered from prisoner Farid Sheikh.
The investigating officer of the case and in-charge of Sadar Outpost, Sujan Miya, said that four prisoners have been arrested in a new case and sent to jail. A decision will be taken in consultation with senior officials about whether to apply for remand for their interrogation or not.
