Own Correspondent: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, today’s Bangladesh is a changing Bangladesh. We started the journey as the father of the nation wanted. We have reduced the poverty rate. I believe, this country will not be poor anymore. We have been able to eradicate poverty.
He said this at a ceremony to celebrate the completion of the first tube of the Bangabandhu Tunnel under the Karnaphuli river in Chittagong on Saturday (November 26).
Calling for increasing production, Sheikh Hasina said that we have the ability to use our own resources. I have called upon the people of the country to increase their production wherever they have land and reservoirs. We will produce our own food. I will not touch anyone. I urge everyone to follow that principle.
He said, new technology has been used in the communication system. We have proved that Bangladesh can, through the construction of Padma Bridge. China assisted in the construction. We thank them.
The Prime Minister also said that as a result of the Bangabandhu Tunnel in Chittagong, the image of the country will be brighter internationally and the economy will be dynamic.
Under the chairmanship of Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, Cabinet Secretary Khandkar Anwarul Islam, Chief Secretary of Prime Minister’s Office Dr. Ahmad Kaykaus, Senior Secretary Tofazzal Hossain Mia and others.
Besides, engineer Mosharraf Hossain, a member of the presidium of Awami League in Patenga, Information Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud, Water Resources Deputy Minister AKM Enamul Haque Shamim, Education Deputy Minister Mahibul Alam Chowdhury Naufel, Chinese Ambassador Li Jin Ming, Chittagong City Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury and Project Director Harunur Rashid were present.
Incidentally, the country’s first tunnel is being built in Karnaphuli with the cooperation of China. The mega project is under construction at a cost of Tk 10 thousand 374 crore. There are two tubes in the tunnel. The project vehicle is being tested there. Being under the river, 52 irrigation pumps are being installed due to the fear that water may accumulate for safety. Work is also underway to provide an alternate route in case of an accident in one of the two tubes laid under the river.
