Barguna Correspondent: The microbus carrying the bridegroom fell into the canal after breaking the bridge at Amtali in Barguna. So far, the bodies of nine people in the microbus have been recovered. The names of the dead were not immediately known.
The accident took place in the Haldia Bazar area of Chawra Union of the Upazila on Saturday afternoon.
It is known that the bride and groom were going to the wedding ceremony in a microbus. On reaching the spot, the bridge collapsed, and the microbus fell into the canal. So far, nine deaths have been reported due to drowning in the canal. Apart from this, several people are missing.
Amtali police station, OC Kazi Sakhawat Hossain said that after receiving information that the microbus fell into the canal after breaking the bridge, they went to the spot and recovered the bodies of nine people. The death toll may rise further. The microbus is still under water.
Amtali Upazila Executive Officer (UNO), Mohammad Ashraful Alam, said, I have reached the spot after receiving the news. Police, fire service, and locals are working to rescue the missing people.
