Cox’s Bazar Correspondent: The Teknaf-Saint-Martin sea route was closed due to the ongoing conflict in Myanmar’s Rakhine, firing at Bangladeshi trawlers and speedboats from the country’s border. After 8 days of closure, a ship named MV Baro Aulia from Cox’s Bazar reached Saint Martin Island on Friday (June 14) night with food and passengers.

A vessel named MV Baro Aulia arrived at St. Martin Jetty Ghat at 11:30 p.m. from Nunyarchhara BIWTA wharf in Cox’s Bazar city around 2 p.m. on Friday with food products. The chairman of the Saint Martin Union, Parishad Mujibur Rahman, confirmed the matter.

He said that on June 5, 8, and 11, Bangladeshi trawlers and speedboats bound for Teknaf and St. Martin were fired at on the Teknaf-Saint Martin waterway of the Myanmar-Bangladesh Nafnadi section.

Due to this, all types of navigation, including ships, have been stopped in the St. Martin waterway. As a result, there is a shortage of food and daily necessities on the island. Finally, with the help of the district administration, the ship has come to the island with rice, pulses, onions, and other types of edible food products from Cox’s Bazar. At the same time, the stranded residents of Cox’s Bazar are also returning.

Additional District Magistrate (ADM) of Cox’s Bazar. Yamin Hossain said, “Foodstuffs have been sent to this ship in coordination with the merchants of Saint Martin Island. In addition, more than 300 residents of Saint Martin stranded in Cox’s Bazar are also returning to the island on this ship.
