The exemplary strides made by the RMG industry of Bangladesh in the areas of workplace safety, sustainability and workers’ well-being have boosted the confidence of brands and buyers, he said.
He made the observation while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 8th International Fire, Safety and Security Expo 2022 organized by Electronics Safety and Security Association of Bangladesh (ESSAB) at Bashundhara International Convention Center in Dhaka on November 24.
MA Mannan, MP, Minister, Ministry of Planning, attended the inaugural ceremony as chief guest.
Md. Jasim Uddin, President FBCCI; Brigadier General Md Main Uddin, Director General of Fire Service and Civil Defense; and Zahir Uddin Babar, President, ESSAB also spoke at the event.
In his speech Faruque Hassan said, “To create awareness and culture of safety among the workers and employees, a number of training programs on Occupational Safety & Health and Social Dialogue & Industrial Relations were taken by the Government of Bangladesh, ILO, associations, brands and factories by themselves.”
As a result of all these initiatives and efforts, Bangladesh is today recognized as one of the safest apparel manufacturing countries globally, he added.
Moreover, to carry forward the progresses made by the unilateral safety regimes and to establish national self-monitoring, the RMG Sustainability Council (RSC) has been established, the BGMEA President remarked.
“We are committed to continue the safety momentum while enhancing our industry’s competitiveness through innovation, technological upgradation and skill development,” he said.
