Patuakhali Correspondent: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that the Awami League government is working to quickly rebuild houses, roads, and dams damaged by Cyclone Remal. He thanked the party leaders and workers for standing by the affected people and urged them to continue their program.
He said this while addressing the residents after the distribution of relief at the Govt. Mozahar Uddin Biswas Degree College ground in Kalapara town of Patuakhali on Thursday (May 30).
Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited the cyclone-affected areas.
Pointing out that this storm tide has been very unusual, he said, “I have done the Cyclone Centre. People are sheltered there. For those who are homeless, I have made disaster-resistant houses. Because of which, people at least got shelter. The animals have received shelter.
We want the people of this area to be freed from the disaster. As we know, this area is always disaster-prone. All the roads that have already been damaged have been repaired. Apart from that, we have already started repairing the dams that have broken. So that we can save people from flooding or water by building the dams before monsoon.
Sheikh Hasina said that today we can stand by the people who are in need because there is a continuous democracy. Socio-economic development of people. You can see the socio-economic progress of the country. By making roads, schools, colleges, and your communication system, I have done all the electrical work.
The head of government said, “We are already looking for those whose houses have been destroyed. Besides, I will sit with everyone again. So that wherever those whose houses have been destroyed, I will restore their houses, you can keep this hope.’
“Many ponds have become salty due to the flood. In many places, fish cages have been washed away. Lucky for us, paddy harvesting was over. Even after that, I will provide seeds, fertilizers, and whatever else is needed so that the farmers can sow them again, inshallah. So that you can cultivate new enthusiasm. I want not even an inch of our land to be uncultivated. And we take action with that goal in mind. And we will make that arrangement.
Stating that the Awami League government is doing everything necessary to provide food, clothing, shelter, education, and medical care for the needs of people’s lives, he said, “We have set up a community clinic, and medicines are available free of charge from there.” I am giving books free of charge for the education of boys and girls. We send scholarship money in my mother’s name. We give free food to those who are very poor. Now that the price of goods has increased, we have made family cards for those who cannot afford them. We have also arranged that you can buy rice, dal, and oil for a small amount of money. Our aim is that the people of the country should not suffer from hunger. Along with this, we are working for the overall development of people.
Stating that it is very easy to go everywhere for the development of roads, the head of government said that today, leaving from Dhaka, Kalapara in Patuakhali can be reached within five-six hours. But could not come before. Besides, I have made roads in villages and towns. This southern region was the most neglected. He also highlighted the development activities of the Awami League government in this region.
The prime minister also said that the government and the Awami League would compensate the victims of the cyclone. He said that the region has developed because the Awami League has come to power. There were many before, but no one noticed. The people of this region are constantly at war with nature. Constantly engaged in the battle of life. Today, at least, we can say that this natural calamity will come, but our goal is to protect people’s quality of life by dealing with it.
