Dhaka Bureau: The Oman government will open visas in 12 categories for Bangladeshi citizens. The Times of Oman reported this information about Sirajul Haque, chairman of Bangladesh Social Club Oman. Earlier, on October 31, 2023, the Oman government stopped issuing visas to Bangladeshis in all categories.
The 12 categories include family visas, visit visas for Bangladeshi citizens residing in GCC countries, doctor visas, engineers visas, nurses visas, teacher visas, accountant visas, investor visas, and all official visas.
The Times of Oman reports that the arrival of Bangladeshi nationals in Oman has dropped by more than 50 percent since the visa ban. Last September, the arrival of Bangladeshi nationals stood at 28,201, a drop of more than 50 percent in a few months.
In a circular issued on October 31, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) suspended all visas for Bangladeshi nationals.
In a statement at that time, the Oman Police said, after reviewing several types of visa policies, the suspension of conversion from tourist and visit visas to work visas was announced for all foreigners arriving in Oman. Besides, the suspension of the new visa issue for Bangladeshi citizens has come into effect. The announcement will be effective from October 31 of last year until further orders, the statement said.
The Oman Police statement did not specify why the visa suspension was decided. However, the Bangladesh Embassy in Muscat then said in a statement that this process of visa suspension is temporary.
