The Crime Desk: The World Bank has approved a 700 million-dollar project for the displaced Rohingyas and locals who have taken refuge in Bangladesh. The company said this in a press release on Tuesday (May 28) local time.

The World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors on Tuesday approved two projects totaling $700 million to provide basic services and build disaster and social resilience for both host communities and the displaced Rohingya population in Bangladesh, the release said. Since 2017, nearly one million Rohingya have fled the country to Bangladesh due to violence in Myanmar. It is one of the world’s largest forced displacement crises.

World Bank Country Director Abdoulaye Sek said long-term planning and sustainable solutions are becoming increasingly important as the Rohingya crisis enters its seventh year. At the same time, short-term, urgent needs also need to be addressed. The World Bank is therefore fully committed to supporting the government of Bangladesh in addressing this critical crisis.

It is known that out of this 700 million dollars, 292.5 million dollars will be a grant, and the rest will be given by the World Bank in the form of a soft loan.
