Dhaka Bureau: On December 10, BNP wants to close the busy road of Nayapaltan for the purpose of creating chaos in their rally in Dhaka. Information Minister and Awami League Joint General Secretary Dr. Hasan Mahmud said this.
Dr. Hasan said, “BNP already knows that the number of people in their rally will not exceed 30,000 to 50,000.” Even if that is the case, under no circumstances should a rally be held off a busy road. And if people sit on the whole one kilometer road of Nayapaltan then not more than 50 thousand. Yet by insisting on gathering there they are proving—first: they fear there won’t be many people there. Second: Rallying on the streets facilitates rioting. They want to hold a rally there for these two purposes.
Mentioning that the purpose of holding a rally in front of the BNP office in Nayapaltan is a nefarious one, the Broadcasting Minister said that big rallies are never held on the streets, it is inappropriate to hold a rally on the streets, it causes suffering to the people. It is you journalists who write and show on television that people are suffering while rallying in the streets. Government may permit assembly but not any assembly intended to riot.
