Cyclone Remal’s impact begins with 10 major distress signals

The Crime Desk: Cyclone ‘Remal’, which is located in the north-west Bay of Bengal and adjacent areas, has moved further north and has become a strong cyclone in the same area. Due to the impact of a strong cyclone, rain with gusty winds has started in the coastal areas.

In this situation, Payra and Mongla seaports have been asked to show distress signal number 10. The coastal districts of Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Pirojpur, Jhalkathi, Barguna, Barisal, Bhola, Patuakhali, and the outlying Dwip-Char will be under a 10-distress signal.

Besides, Cox’s Bazar and Chittagong seaports have been asked to show distress signal number 9. The coastal districts of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Feni, Comilla, Noakhali, Lakshmipur, Chandpur, and the outlying Dwip-Char will be covered by the 9-distress signal.

Not only the seaport but also the river port have been asked to show the distress signal. In particular, the river ports of Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Pirojpur, Jhalkathi, Barguna, Barisal, Bhola, Patuakhali, Feni, Comilla, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Chandpur, Chittagong, and Cox’s Bazar districts have been asked to show maritime distress signal number 4.

According to special weather bulletin number 10, the severe cyclone may cross the coast near Mongla from Sunday evening to midnight. The maximum sustained wind speed is 90 km/h within 64 km of the cyclone center, increasing to 120 km/h in gust or gale form. The sea is rough in the vicinity of the strong cyclone center.

Due to the impact of the strong cyclone, the coastal districts of Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Pirojpur, Jhalkathi, Bargana, Barisal, Bhola, Patuakhali, Feni, Comilla, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Chandpur, Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, and the remote Dwip-Char are 8 to 12 feet above normal tide. May be inundated by high tides.

Heavy to very heavy rains with gusty winds or gusty winds may occur in Rajshahi, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong, and Sylhet divisions under the influence of the strong cyclone. Landslides may occur in hilly areas of Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban, Rangamati, Khagrachari, and Chittagong due to heavy rainfall.

In this situation, fishing boats and trawlers stationed in the North Bay of Bengal and deep sea have been asked to stay in safe shelter until further instructions.
