Dhaka Bureau: Bangladesh Army Chief General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed left for Qatar on a four-day state visit. He visited the country on Wednesday (November 23) at the special invitation of Qatar’s armed forces. During his visit, he will pay a courtesy call on Qatar Army Emiri Guard Commander Lieutenant General Hajja bin Khalil Al Shawani.
This information was confirmed in a circular of the Directorate of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Wednesday (November 23).
According to ISPR, during the meeting, they will discuss various issues of development of bilateral relations and mutual cooperation between the armies of the two countries. Later he will visit various important installations of the country’s army. He will also observe the ongoing World Cup football match in Qatar as an invited spectator of the Qatar Armed Forces. Bangladesh government has no financial support for this visit.
It should be noted that the existing relations between the Bangladesh and Qatari armies have improved tremendously in the past one year due to the initiative of the army chief. A memorandum of understanding on military cooperation between Bangladesh and the Qatar Armed Forces was signed last October.
After the visit, the army chief will return to the country on November 27, according to the notification.
