Dhaka Bureau: Two children quarreled over a trivial incident during play. Another 12-year-old child has been accused of beating a 6-year-old child named Tari to death due to the incident. Police arrested the accused child along with his mother.
The incident took place in Chandrapara of Sholla Union of Nawabganj Upazila of Dhaka on Tuesday (May 21) around noon. That afternoon, the police recovered the body of the dead child from the Upazila Health Complex.
The deceased Tari Barai (6) is the only daughter of Suman Barai of that area. He studied at the local Durga temple in the children’s class. The accused neighbor Abu Saad (12) and his mother Shimu have been detained by the police for questioning.
The victim’s mother, Bakul, said that Tari went missing after leaving the house at around 11 o’clock on Tuesday with the help of the locals. At around 3:30 p.m., the locals found the girl half-buried in the ground in the low part of the banana bush next to the neighbor Saad’s house, and the locals arrested Saad and her mother. He was quickly taken to the Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor in charge declared him dead.
Referring to the preliminary investigation, the officer in charge of Nawabganj police station, Shah Jalal, said that while playing a game, the two children quarreled over trivial matters. During the altercation, Saad first slapped Taree several times. Later, Tari died by repeatedly hitting her on the cheek and head with a stick.
The official said that Saad has been arrested in this incident. He confessed to the police that he beat Tari to death with a stick and buried the body in the ground to hide it. Suspecting that Saad’s mother was involved in the missing body and the incident, the locals arrested her and handed her over to the police. He is being detained at the police station and is being interrogated.
After recovering the body from the hospital, a report has been prepared. It will be sent to Dhaka’s Sir Salimullah Medical College (Mitford) Hospital morgue for autopsy on Wednesday morning. The police officer said that a murder case is under process at the police station.
