1 killed in a Teknaf truck collision

Cox’s Bazar Correspondent: Rakib Mohammad Monirul Azam (54), a motorcycle-riding official of a private development organization (NGO), was killed by a truck in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.

The police said that the accident took place on Monday, May 20, at 8 p.m. in the south bridge area of Mochni Bazar in Hnila Union of the upazila.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Abul Hossain of Huaikang Highway Police Outpost confirmed this information.

Deceased Rakib Mohammad Monirul Azam is the son of deceased Abdul Hamid of Bhuiyapur area of Tangail district. He was working as an officer of Bangla-German Sampriti (BGS), a non-governmental development organization, deployed in the Rohingya camp of Teknaf.

According to the locals, SI Abul Hossain said that a truck heading towards Cox’s Bazar hit a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction in the southern bridge area adjacent to Mochni Bazar of Hnila Union in Teknaf. Rakib died as the motorcycle overturned on the spot.

He also said that in the afternoon, Rakib completed his duties at the Rohingya camp. Later, spend time with acquaintances in the Mochni Bazar area till 8 p.m. He met with this accident while returning to Teknaf Upazila Sadar by motorcycle at night.

Abul Hossain said that the locals said that in the afternoon there was a short period of rain in various areas of Teknaf. During rains, some water accumulates on the bridge south of Mochni Bazar. On reaching there, the accident-prone motorcycle slipped in the accumulated rainwater. In this case, the motorcycle fell on the road and was hit by a truck.

This police officer said that legal measures are under process in this regard.
